Two kinds 
Jing Mei and her mother have a difficult relationship in which a high and unrealistic expectation , got Jing Mei into a confusing life that hurt her emotionally expecting very less of herself and downgrading herself poorly into a low exceptions child. How ever during the story we see a serious of effects regarding this exceptions toward Jing Mei and her ability to play the piano, Ln 129-133 "who ask you be genius?, she shouted, Only ask you be your best. For your sake". the story intends to acknowledge this behavior for the reader to understand how the high hopes of her mother have being interpreted as being a genius as being a piano prodigy asking for more that Jing Mei could handle at the time. By the time we see Jing Mei as and adult we perceive another type of Jing Mei personality we see characteristics of Regret, Guilty and some what insecure, Ln 306-307 " I failed her so many times, each time asserting my own will, my right to fall short of expectation" Now we see How Jing Mei learned with her mothers actions how she now knows what she became Realistic and self centered, On the other hand we fully comprehend a young Jing Mei and how her situation took her to her actual situation. Jing Mei has learned how to deal with her fact with her abilities and how to exploit them regarding her own wishes, Ln. 332-334 " And After that... It made me feel proud ,as if it were a shiny trophy i had won back". We see how she treats her own mistakes and her mothers expectations toward a final goal and thrives to process her emotions.
